The Madness of Jake Caulder chapter 29

Chapter 29

“There they are.” Zack called excitedly as he caught sight of the two big city cops’ vehicle. “Step on it, Billy.”
“Yeah, yeah, I see em Zack.”
“Come on Billy, run em off the road.” Jethro added excitedly.
It was the first time Jethro had spoken, and he was now getting excited about the prospect of knocking heads together. He started bouncing up and down, chanting. “Gonna kick me some big city butt, oh yeah. Gonna kick it to the next county. Gonna teach them city slickers the meanin’ of respect.”
He started to guffaw and hee haw like a jack ass, which got all of them whooping and hollering. They all joined in.
“Gonna kick me some big city butt, oh yeah. Gonna kick it to the next county. Gonna teach them city slickers the meanin’ of respect.” They were all laughing so hard that tears were coming to their eyes.
Everyone was laughing and carrying on except Joe Bob. He remained quiet in the back seat. No one seemed to notice that he wasn’t joining in with the rest of them. He sat there, becoming more and more upset. All he could think about was how Higgins had made him look like a fool back there at the office. He was planning on doing more than just kicking ass. He was going to take out his anger towards Higgins on these two cops they were chasing, and then later, he would revisit the sheriff and make him regret having been such a shit head toward him.
In all the carrying on, Billy had dropped his pistol onto the floor under the seat, but he hadn’t noticed. Joe Bob, who was sitting behind him, saw it and took it with out any one being the wiser. Yes, he was going to take his anger out on those two dip shits up ahead, you could be sure of that. Finally, a smile came across his face, and he too joined in the hooting and hollering as they got closer and closer to their unsuspecting prey. Soon, he would show everyone that he was not just a dumb farm boy, but someone to be feared.
He tucked the pistol into his pants and waited for the right opportunity to use it. This is going to fun, he thought. He didn’t realize however, that he was about to make matters a whole lot worse for his friends and himself, a whole lot worse.
