Chapter 32
“Boss, what the fuck was all that about back there?” Miller asked, his heart still racing from the adrenaline rush.
“Fucked if I know, but we’re going to find out.”
“Do you think Higgins really would have sent those four goons out to meet us?”
“Like I said, I don’t know. All I know is that the sheriff got real upset when we asked him about the case. I think it’s more than just outsiders interested in a case that has gone unsolved for so long. We’ll find out more when we talk with him. I hope for his sake that he cooperates.”
“Yeah, let’s hope so.”
They said nothing more and just drove in silence until they pulled up in front of the sheriff’s office again.
“Let me do the talking Miller.”
“Yes sir, I will. I’ve got your back.”
“Yeah, Andy, I know. You are a trusted friend. I know I can count on you.”
They got out of the car and walked toward the front door. They opened it and went in to question Higgins to see if what the four men had said was true, and if it was, why had he sent them after the two of them and what was it that he was hiding.
